What is Self-Enumeration?

India's First Digital Census — And You're Part of It

India Digital Census 2026 — first ever online population count
🗺️ Odisha — one of the first states to begin the Digital Census 2026 self-enumeration from April 1

The Government of India is conducting the 16th National Census in 2026–27 — the first to go fully digital. In Odisha, this digital census is called Janagana (ଜନଗଣ), and it introduces a brand-new feature: Self-Enumeration.

Self-Enumeration means you can now register your household data yourself, online, from your mobile or computer — instead of waiting for a government official to visit your home. It's faster, more accurate, and entirely free. The portal is available in 16 Indian languages including Odia and Hindi.

2

Login With Mobile OTP

Click "Start Self-Enumeration." Enter your mobile number and verify the OTP you receive. No username or password required.✅ Any active mobile number works

3

Answer questions about your house: type (pakka/kachha), ownership, water source, electricity, toilet, cooking fuel, and household assets like TV, vehicle, mobile phone, etc.

5

Fill Part B — All Family Members

Enter details for every person living in your home: name, gender, date of birth, relationship, education, occupation, caste, religion, and marital status. Aadhaar optional but helpful.

6

Review Everything Carefully

Before clicking Submit, double-check all names, dates, and details. Errors are correctable but better to get it right the first time.

7

Submit & Save Your SE ID

After submission, you'll receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID). Screenshot it or note it down. This ID confirms your registration was successful.⚠️ Share this ID with the enumerator when they visit after April 16

Your Confirmation Number

What is the SE ID & Why Does It Matter?

SE ID - Digital confirmation of your Janagana registration

After submitting your registration, the portal generates a Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) — a unique reference number proving your household has completed online registration.

Think of the SE ID as your digital receipt for completing Janagana registration. Always save it as a screenshot on your phone or write it in a safe place.

⚠️ Why the SE ID is Critical When the government enumerator visits your home between April 16 and May 15, they will ask for your SE ID. Providing it confirms your data is already in the system and prevents duplicate data entry. Without it, the enumerator will re-collect all your household data from scratch — wasting everyone's time.
